PEDALING YOUR WAY TO CLEAN WATER ?
September , 2011 , Japan’s Nippon Basic Company
Initially designed for disaster zones and remote villages, users can bike to virtually anywhere there is a water source, be it rivers, ponds, pools and even wells, and source their own clean water.
“1,900,000 children a year lose their life due to unclean water. (UNICEF) It is said that even now, approximately one third of the world’s population can not get clean water, and the lives of children inunsanitary environments are in at risk.” Nippon Basic’s CycloClean
Cycloclean is a durable bike equipped with a kinetic water purifier. With cycling Cycloclean it’s possible to create their own source of clean water. It is capable of purifying up to 3 tons of water in 10 hours. According to the product page that’s enough water to supply 1,500 people with purified drinking water from rivers or lakes. In a month, 90 to 100 tons of water could be produced using the new technology. The device is in fact powerful enough to siphon water from a depth of five meters!
ABOUT the DESIGN Process
By creating a method to purify water using solely manpower, Nippon Basic has tackled the problem from a very different angle. Relying on peddling power, the Cycloclean is capable of purifying up to 3 tons of water in 10 hours. According to the product page that’s enough water to supply 1,500 people with purified drinking water from rivers or lakes. In a month, 90 to 100 tons of water could be produced using the new technology.
During the global economic crisis, developed countries have increasingly targeted Africa as a potential market with which to trade in order to boost their sluggish economies and global leaders are travelling to Africa to try and gain a foothold in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
In the quotidian life Bangladesh people always use bicycles for daily transportations as a vehicle important and that’s why this project is based on a bicycle that they can apply the filters and the other equipments of the machine ‘ CycloClean’ on their bicycles.
WHY IT INSPIRES ME
In the third world countries for all the habitants it’s so difficult to have an opportunity to have electricity and it’s quite luxury for them. So for using the Cycloclean no one needs to use the power sources and it makes the project usable for all people living in poor countries. The possibilty of having the clean water by the human power is a very intelligent and sustainable project.
The distribution of the equipment of Cycloclean is economical and easy from Japan to Africa The machine of Cycloclean can be applied also on their own bicycle. With this equipment it’s easy to reach the clean water by using human power.
